Barbican 110cm Black Fluted Console Table

A console in a deep, even black, with the grain of the top left visible so it reads as stained wood rather than paint. The oval top sits on a pedestal finished in close vertical fluting, and in a dark finish that fluting does most of the work: it is the shadow between the ribs that gives the piece its shape rather than any colour or figure.

At 110cm wide and 40cm deep it suits a hallway, the space behind a sofa, or a landing. Black is the easier of the dark finishes to place, because it sits against warm wood and cool grey equally well, and it holds its own in a room with a lot going on. Worth knowing that a matt black surface shows dust and fingerprints more readily than a pale one.
